September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows can be traced back to the New Testament, but it wasn't celebrated universally until 1814.

Devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows first emerged in the eleventh century around the Mediterranean. In 1233, seven men in Florence had visions from the Blessed Virgin Mary, leading to the formation of the Servite order. Their mission included spreading devotion to the Seven Sorrows of Mary.
